How To Get Summertime Fine in the Winter

We’ve all heard the saying, “Summertime bodies are made in the winter.” This holds absolutely true. Even though we’re fast approaching spring, there is still plenty of time to get in shape for the summer. You may have been following a steady routine so far but it is easy to lose motivation. The cold weather might even discourage you from leaving the house. Here are some tips to get you started, help you stay motivated and get you looking right for the summer!

1. Set Your Goal

Create a reasonable and realistic goal for yourself. Focus on short term goals such as maintaining your weight or losing 1-2 pounds a week. By keeping your goals short and reasonable you won’t become overwhelmed. Create a plan with the days you will work out, and what you’d like to focus on. Pick a few days a week and stick to them.

2. Work Out Clothes

Getting cute workout gear can be just what you need to feel motivated. Wearing athletic clothes you deem attractive can boost your confidence and put you in an athletic mood.

 3. Apps

If battling the winter weather is making it difficult for you to keep up with consistently going to the gym, try downloading a fitness app. There are several apps, such as Sworkit and PumpUp, that have full workouts that you can complete at home without any equipment. You can create a customized workout plan with just a few taps on your smartphone.

4. Sign Up for a Class

Nothing will keep you motivated like being obligated to attend a class that you’ve paid for. Check out local gyms for classes that may interest you. Try something new, or take up a class that you’ve previously enjoyed.

5. Workout Partner

Accountability is important. Find a buddy who also has fitness goals to workout with. They can hold you accountable and inspire your workouts, and you can do the same for them!

If you fall behind or find yourself in a rut, switch up your routine. Don’t beat yourself up about falling behind, but use it as motivation to keep going!
