Travel Diaries: Marrakech

Welcome to A.I travel diaries! As lovers of travel, we want to share our experiences and useful hints and tips for some of our favourite travel destinations. First up is Marrakech, a beautiful Moroccan city steeped in culture. Carry on reading for our recommendations when visiting this beautiful city!

Food

Barometre

Located just outside the Medina, Barometre is an ideal spot for a celebration. The first spot in Marrakech dedicated to mixology and creative Mediterranean cuisine, you won’t be disappointed you made the extra journey. Particular cocktail favourites are the Mojito Royale for that vacation feel, or the Eye Contact to share with your loved one!

La Cantine des Gazelles

La Cantine des Gazelles is ideally located just a few minutes walk from tourist central Jemaa El-Fna, which makes the quality of the food that bit more surprising. A vibrantly decorated eatery with an incredible selection of local and international cuisine, this is the perfect place to escape the afternoon heat. We recommend trying the grilled goats cheese salad, just make sure to make a reservation as this place is usually packed!

L’Mida

Restaurant L’Mida is located in the heart of the Medina, and is known for their warming Moroccan cuisine with an avant-garde twist. With the highest rooftop in the Medina, the sunset view under the lantern lights cannot be missed!

Activities/culture

Jardin Marjorelle

The beautifully maintained gardens and architecture of Jardin Majorelle is the perfect places to get some much needed midday shade. The vibrant colours are a perfect picture backdrop for your A.I vacation looks!

Yves Saint Laurent Museum

Attached to Jardin Marjorelle you can explore Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic designs up close. Immersing yourself in some of fashions most famous pieces, in the city which was his biggest inspiration, this is an experience not to be missed. With exclusive hand sketches and designs from the runway, this is the best place to spend a chilly winter morning or warm summer evening.

Palacio da Bahia

An iconic 19th century piece of architecture, the colours and detailed tile work are a great way to take in more of this amazing cities culture. The cooling tiles make this a great spot to visit in the summer when the heat is so high.

Essouira trip

Whilst many Marrakech riads may offer a rooftop pool, an escape to the coast is sometimes just what you need! A short journey to this seaside town is worth it to see the incredible white and blue architecture encased in the city walls. Spend your days lazing on the stunning beaches, or spend some time exploring the art scene of this coastal town.

Where to stay

Marrakech is known for their Riads, a style of house which often have a contained courtyard or garden within. For larger groups it's possible to stay in an entire riad, or for couples and smaller groups there are plenty of rooms available in boutique riad hotels. These are a great option if you want to stay in the heart of the Medina in amongst the bustling city.

For those who want to experience a quieter stay in Marrakech, there are plenty of stunning hotels outside the Medina. With such a wide variety of architectural styles, there is sure to be somewhere for everyone in Marrakech.

We hope you consider Marrakech for your upcoming travel plans, check back soon for more travel diaries!
